
Siegel student arrested after unloaded gun found in car on
campus
One Siegel High School student was arrested and expelled after
an unloaded handgun, knife and club were found in his car Monday
on campus, Principal Ken Nolan reported. School resource
officers charged the boy with possession of a weapon. In a
letter to parents, Nolan stated bullets were found in another
part of the car. “The student did not indicate that he meant to
harm anyone,” Nolan stated in the letter.
Cash, checks stolen from Erma Siegel school
About $24,000 worth of checks stolen from Erma Siegel Elementary
School was canceled after the documents were stolen last week
from the school, a Murfreesboro Police supervisor said
Burglars broke into home while
family slept
Burglars broke into a home while a family slept and broke into
four neighbor’s vehicles early Tuesday on Shirley Road off Baker
Road, sheriff’s deputies said. Thomas Keel, his wife and
daughter were sleeping when the burglars entered their garage
and stole a DVD player, camcorder and brass tea set, Deputy Ray
Roberts reported. The family was not awakened.
Smyrna Guard unit to be honored
during "Freedom Salute" Saturday
NASHVILLE -- Tennessee Army National Guard soldiers from
Smyrna's 1129th Finance Company will be honored at “Freedom
Salute” ceremonies Saturday, Dec. 2, at the National Guard's
Regional Training Institute, Building 500, adjacent to the
Smyrna airport.
Benefit set Sunday for Bud's Tire employees
Neighbors and customers will show support for fire victims Bud
Mitchell and his employees at Bud’s Tire whose building burned
Nov. 22 on Old Woodbury Highway. Organizers Teb Batey,
Rutherford County trustee, and Harding Fox will host an open
house appreciation benefit from 2 to 5:30 p.m. Sunday at the
Kittrell Volunteer Fire Department on Old Woodbury Highway. The
extended time will allow people to watch Murfreesboro’s
Christmas Parade first.
Bud's Tire reopens in temporary quarters
Bud’s Tire is open for business again. Fire gutted the building
last Wednesday on Old Woodbury Highway. Owner Bud Mitchell and
his employees set up a temporary shop across the street at the
Wilson and Mitchell Hardware store also owned by Mitchell and
his family.
Former commissioner complains about blasting
Blasting may be damaging the home of a former county
commissioner and affecting the family’s health, she reported
Monday to Murfreesboro Police. Ex-commissioner Tina Jones, who
lives on U.S. Highway 41 South (Manchester Highway), reported
blasting from the Joe B. Jackson Parkway area may cause
respiratory problems for her family, Officer Jason McGee
reported.
